Job Description

The Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division at Argonne National Laboratory is seeking a postdoctoral appointee to develop and conduct research on fundamental understanding of system performance and performance degradation of electrode materials for high energy density lithium ion battery systems through use of structural and electrochemical characterization. 

Incumbent will work in the Interfacial Chemistry Group within the Electrochemical Energy Storage department with researchers and partners at on and off-site facilities to conduct experiments.

In this role you will:

  • Conduct synthesis, characterization and electrochemistry of anode materials and related materials for lithium ion for high energy battery systems.
  • Work will entail investigation of the surface and bulk structural properties including electrochemical performance and transport measurements and characterization using spectroscopic and related methods.
  • Plan and conduct research on battery materials with characterization techniques that include electrochemical, structural, mechanical and chemical methods, while adhering to Laboratory and Divisional Environmental, Safety, Health/Quality Assurance practices and policies.
  • Analyze data, prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed publications, presents papers at scientific meetings, and prepares reports, presentations, and papers for group meetings or meeting sponsor reporting requirements.
  • Must possess a Ph.D. degree in chemistry, or related disciplines that has been completed in the last three years.
