Job Description

We are seeking outstanding candidates for a postdoctoral position in radiochemistry to perform laboratory research in variety of areas relevant to accelerator-produced radionuclides, the nuclear fuel cycle and the development of separation and purification methods. With guidance, the Postdoctoral Appointee will contribute to planning and execution of experimental activities, data analyses, submission of reports, and manuscripts to peer-reviewed publications, attend and present experimental results at scientific meetings. Develops experimental plans and safety documentation. Develops and contributes to new ideas for research proposals and directions within the research group.

To be considered, candidate will need to have these essential skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to carry out independent and collaborative research on a multidisciplinary team with the ability to meet deliverables and milestones
  • Knowledge of and experience in the field of radiochemistry including radionuclide separations, such as solvent extraction, and chromatography techniques, handling radioactive sources, and irradiated targets
  • Laboratory experience in safe handling of radioactive materials in hoods, gloveboxes, and shielded cells
  • Experience in the use of analytical tools such as a NaI and HPGe gamma detectors, liquid scintillation counter, UV-Vis, FTIR, Raman, NMR, XRD spectroscopies, X-ray and neutron scattering
  • Demonstrated creative and proactive approach towards scientific problem solving
  • Knowledge of and experience in general analytical methods development and good analytical practices
  • Knowledge and experience in thermodynamic, kinetic and spectroscopic modeling
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • To perform the essential functions of this position successful applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship, which is required to comply with federal regulations and contract. Illegal drug testing as defined in 10 CFR 707.4 and a background investigation will be required prior to employment.

 

This level of knowledge and skills is typically achieved through a combination of studies in chemistry, chemical or nuclear engineering or related fields at the Ph.D. degree level, and 0-2 year of experience in separation science and radiochemistry.
