Job Summary:

The Research Technologist 1 helps lab members conduct experiments, works in a team, conducts tests & procedures, sets up & operates equipment, help collect data and works with the veterinarian. The position requires a practical understanding of biology, a preferably neuroscience.

**This position includes work with biological materials. Stem cell maintenance and differentiation may require occasional brief weekend activities.

Specific Responsibilities:

Follows pre-defined protocols, policies, procedure, regulations, Good Clinical and Good Laboratory Practices and conducts standard experiments and completes basic trouble-shooting techniques.
Sets-up, operates and maintains standard lab equipment.
An entry level in the stated skills is required:
Molecular Biology:
DNA, RNA, Protein isolation, purification and expression
Western blotting
PCR, RT-PCR
Plasmid preparation
Cloning, mapping and sequencing of DNA
Cellular Biology:
Cell culture, cell isolation
Functional studies
Transfection
Histology:
Tissue fixation/processing: embedding, preparation of blocks and sectioning, staining
Immunohistochemistry
Microscopy
Immunology:
Flow cytometry
Records test results and may maintain databases.
Completes standard and routine clerical duties such as copying, filing, data entry, word processing, etc.
Maintains inventory of reagents, mouse colony and lab supplies.
Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

HS diploma and some basic science courses are required.
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)

Working knowledge of computers and software (Microsoft Word, Excel), basic statistics, ability to work independently; strong organizational skills and multitasking will be required.
Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience)

Undergraduate diploma and some basic science courses are preferred.
Previous experience working in a research lab setting is preferred.
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)

People with strong work ethic, willingness to learn new things, and being a good team member are preferred.
