Job DescriptionThe laboratory of Dr. Krushna Patra in the Department of Cancer & Cell Biology, College of Medicine at the University of Cincinnati, is looking for a full-time research assistant.
The focus of the Patra lab is to understand the interplay of cellular signaling and metabolism in the tumorigenesis processes. This position will be involved in the active research environment to answer important questions related to the development and treatment of pancreatic and other gastrointestinal cancer. This position will participate in research projects and shared laboratory publications.
Duties and responsibilities:
This position works very closely with and will receive direct training from Dr. Patra and other members of the lab, which may include postdoctoral fellows, graduate students and clinical fellows. The primary duty of the position is to assist in performing experiments related to tissue culture (maintenance of cancer cells and organoids), molecular biology (DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, cloning, biochemical assays and, western blot) and mouse models of cancer (mouse breeding, genotyping, surgery, tumor cell implantation and tissue harvesting).
Additional duties include ordering and organizing lab supplies for lab management. Under supervision, the candidate will perform experiments according to lab protocol, keep records of experimental results, and analyze data. This position will also participate in other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a profession/field or equivalent level of knowledge.
Additonal Qualifications Considered:
Bachelor degree (B.A., B.S.) in any biological science discipline or in a related field (not limited to biology, chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, and biophysics).
Experience in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint to record and organize experimental data.
Prior experience in molecular biology laboratory research.
Experience in handling laboratory mouse is a plus.
