Job Description

The purpose of the position is to help battery recycling researchers design a system for recycling end of life lithium-ion batteries. 

A Postdoctoral Appointment with expertise in plant design and costing.  An understanding of plant economics and life cycle analysis (LCA) is of importance as well.   Through this appointment, the candidate will possess good understanding of designing and installing new plant designs related to battery manufacturing and recycling.  New processing technologies developed by the ReCell center will be evaluated, and plant designs will be generated.  The EverBatt model will be used to help determine cost and environmental impacts of these processes.  EverBatt uses the GREET model (Greenhouse gases, Regulated Emissions, and Energy use in Transportation) and the BatPaC model (Battery Performance and Costing) so familiarity with these models is helpful.

  • A recent (0-2 years) Ph.D. Degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or similar degree.

  • Experience with plant design and related software.

  • Knowledge of Aspen Plus or other chemical engineering models.

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other related software and programming.

  • Experience working with the EverBatt model.

  • Experience working with the GREET model.

  • Experience working with the BatPaC model.

  • Strong knowledge of techno-economic analysis.

  • Knowledge of life cycle analysis.

  • Understanding of lithium-ion battery chemistries.

  • Ability to work well within a team of experts in various areas of expertise.

  • Abilities in oral and written communication and presentation with peers, and colleagues.
