Job DescriptionThis postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment. Individuals in postdoctoral positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance. : This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days, including the ‘posting date’. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time. : Our multidisciplinary team is looking for a motivated, hardworking Cybersecurity Postdoc who wants to solve national security challenges around defending power systems, acquiring a deep system understanding of how complex cyber systems interact, and identification of system vulnerabilities and threats. As part of the team, you will engage in work on cyber-physical, embedded, IoT, and large-scale, interconnected distributed energy resource (DER) and renewable energy networks. In supporting our national security missions, you will engage in a variety of research areas. On any given day, you may be called on to perform: + Modeling, simulation, and emulation of complex power systems + Industrial control systems and SCADA systems + Network operation information protection, and resilience + Vulnerability assessments + Intrusion prevention/detection and response, penetration testing, and forensics + Data science, information theory, and streaming and behavioral analytics + Virtualization (system and network) and cloud technologies
+ PhD degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Security, or Cyber Security + Experience with Linux environments + Strong programming skills in Python + Strong record of research contributions, publications in high quality journals and conferences + The ability to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance
+ Proven problem solving skills and ability to analyze and provide solutions + Experience with penetration testing, Kali Linux tools, or certified ethical hacker credentials + Well-developed technical skills with the ability to prioritize and execute in a disciplined and focused manner + Strong oral and written communication skills; able to explain complex ideas clearly and concisely + Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team of peers with backgrounds in a wide range of subject areas + Ability to multitask and to deliver results on a variety of different activities + Additional programming skills, e.g., Java, MATLAB, C/C++, or others
Sandia's Renewable and Distributed Systems Integration (RDSI) department conducts research, development and demonstrations of new components and systems that will enable rapid transition to a grid based on clean and distributed energy resources. The department partners extensively with the U.S. industry and other research institutions to pursue high-value solutions that enhance performance, safety, reliability and resilience of energy systems. We establish the technical foundation for advanced models, analysis methods, controls, standards, cyber-security solutions and power electronics concepts applicable to microgrids and interconnected systems. Much of this work is conducted at Sandia's Distributed Energy Technologies Laboratory (DETL), a world-recognized systems integration research facility for over 40 years. This work is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy.
