Job DescriptionJob Summary
Assists the Principal Investigator and/or Department Head in managing the engineering activities of a department. Provides leadership and management of personnel and resources for engineering projects. Provides counsel and support for the definition of engineering goals and objectives.
The primary role of this position is to develop carbon neutrality projects from a library of prioritized opportunities to a “shovel-ready” state. Campus-wide project plans will cover a broad set of topics (ex: HVAC, lighting, water, transportation, waste, grounds, etc.) and will require extensive research, collaboration, documentation, and operational strategy development. This role will also serve as a technical lead and owner’s representative during project construction.
This role will also support other engineering efforts including the evaluation of infrastructure technology changes and operational policy development.
This pivotal role will make a large impact by directly contributing work that reduces the University’s carbon footprint, improves local air quality, and generates significant financial returns.
Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline or a related field, or equivalency; six years experience in scientific research or engineering development; demonstrated communication skills; and a commitment to provide excellent customer service required. Experience should include project or organizational management. Preference is given for an advanced degree in a scientific or engineering field and for publication of original research or project development in peer reviewed scientific journals, recognized professional society or engineering journals.
Candidates with a consistent track record keeping implementation of projects on time, in scope, and within budget while successfully delivering project goals.
Preference given to candidates with an intimate knowledge of sustainability and energy and related codes/standards, guidelines, and state/University requirements.
Preference given to candidates that hold PMP certification.
Documented experience with the following:
• Managing design-bid or design-build consultant/contractors and transdisciplinary teams for 3 or more years.
• Developing scope and project plans/budgets for at 3 or more large-scale, highly-technical projects
• Design, construction, operation & maintenance, and commissioning major building systems
• Developing and maintaining standards and procedures
• Working with or in quality-controlled environments such as hospitals, laboratories, and/or manufacturing facilities
• Implementing scalable and creative, solutions-focused projects
• Life-Cycle Cost Analysis and Net Present Value calculations
• Measurement and Verification (M&V) processes
• Data-driven analysis and decision-making
