Job Summary: Jobs in this career family provide direct professional support of research activities. Functions include contracts and grants solicitation and administration, grant/agreement preparation, review and negotiation, regulatory compliance, sponsor communication and post and pre award management, human subject compliance, research animal management, research laboratory coordination and instruction, environmental health and safety, radiation control, hazardous materials use, disposal and training.

Principal Professionals are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field. Work is performed at an advanced or expert level. Principal Professionals are either work leads over others or are considered a subject matter expert in a particular area.

Experienced data engineer focused on building data solutions to address health care issues initiated through the CU Innovations center. Primary development efforts will be built using Python and SQL and will be deployed within the Innovations data platform.

The Data Engineer will report directly to the Medical Director at CU Innovations and work collaboratively with experts in data science, IT, compliance and other key areas at CU and UCHealth.

Examples of Work Performed:

Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture, including building data systems
Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements
Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc
Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and AWS ‘big data’ technologies.
Build analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics
Work with stakeholders to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs
Keep data from multiple data centers secure and HIPPA compliant where relevant
Create data tools for analytics and data scientist team members that assist them in building and optimizing our product into an innovative industry leader
Work with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in data systems
Transform data into a format that can be easily analyzed by developing, maintaining, and testing infrastructures for data generation
Analyze and organize raw data
Evaluate business needs and objectives
Interpret trends and patterns
Conduct complex data analysis and report on results
Prepare data for prescriptive and predictive modeling
Build algorithms and prototypes
Combine raw information from different sources
Explore ways to enhance data quality and reliability
Identify opportunities for data acquisition
Develop analytical tools and programs

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in a data science related field
4+ years of experience with SQL, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including Big Query, Python and R studio
Experience in Azure and other software languages, data visualization tools and multiple operating systems
Required: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Master’s degree in a data science related field
6+ years of experience with SQL, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including Big Query, Python and R studio
Experience in Azure, additional software languages, additional data visualization tools and multiple operating systems
