The Accountant / Senior Accountant applies accounting principles to create, review and maintain controls and systems in the areas of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Accounting, Cost Accounting, Travel Services and Payroll. Work includes:
Drafting and posting journal entries,
Collecting and evaluating data,
Preparing account reconciliations,
Analyzing financial information.
Maintain or oversee the control of accounts and records in such areas as invoice auditing and process, accruals, reimbursement, balance sheets, payroll transactions, deductions, timekeeping.
Ensure the adherence to and communication of accounting and auditing policies and procedures.
Responsible for daily and monthly accounting processes in accordance with Laboratory policies and procedures, Department of Energy guidelines, the Prime Contract, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Cost Accounting Standards, and applicable Federal and State regulations.
Maintain sponsor relationships, process sponsor billing, and manage accounts receivable.
Draft and post journal entries.
Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and research reconciling items.
Review data from accounting processes to ensure proper information is accurately contained in financial business systems.
Provide quality customer service to inquiries from external organizations and division personnel.
Learn from and provide support to various other accounting team members.
Support department and FMPS goals and objectives.
This position is expected to be performed in a hybrid work environment (combination of on-site and remote) however, fully remote work will be considered.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Cost Accounting Standards achieved through a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
Personal initiative, strong analytical and quantitative skills, and the ability to organize and manage complex special projects.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly in Excel.
Ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines.
Attention to detail.

More education or experience may be preferred.
The selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level (PA2 or PA3) dependent upon depth and breadth of relevant knowledge and skills brought to the position, as well as the amount of relevant experience. The requirements of the various levels are as follows:
PA2 Level: Bachelor’s and 2+ years of experience or equivalent.
PA3 Level: Bachelor’s and 4+ years of experience or equivalent.
