CSIRO Early Research Career (CERC) Postdoctoral Fellowships provide opportunities to scientists and engineers who have completed their doctorate and have less than three years of relevant postdoctoral work experience. These fellowships aim to develop the next generation of future leaders of the innovation system.

 

The Australian e-health research centre (AEHRC) is CSIRO’s digital health research unit delivering innovation to the health system. It is the largest eHealth research group in Australia with more than 100 research scientists working with clinicians and industry to identify the clinical and/or health challenges.  The Transformational Bioinformatics Group sits within the AEHRC and its charter is to develop novel bioinformatics solutions for research and industry using the latest in cloud and BigData infrastructure

 

The Postdoctoral Fellow will join this group from the AEHRC and collaborate closely with both other researchers from CSIRO and external collaborators to drive research into and develop new models of pathogen evolution to better understand disease progression and spread.
 

Your duties will include:

  • Carry out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to CSIRO that will, where possible, lead to novel and important scientific outcomes. 
  • Develop innovate concepts, theories, tools and techniques related pathogen genomics and evolution.
  • Undertake regular reviews of relevant literature and patents. 
  • Produce high quality scientific and/or engineering papers suitable for publication in peer-reviewed journals, client reports, blog posts, and granting of patents 
  • Prepare appropriate conference papers and present those at conferences as agreed with your supervisor, as well as YouTube videos to showcase approaches and findings. 

 

Location:  Negotiable 

Salary:  AU$89k - AU$98k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

  • A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as bioinformatics. Please note: To be eligible for this role you must have no more than 3 years (full-time equivalent) of postdoctoral research experience
  • Experience/familiarity with pathogen multi-omic data (in particular time-series data).
  • Evidence of advanced data analytics and programming capabilities in more than one language relevant for bioinformatics (e.g. Python, Java, C++, Scala, BASH, R, Julia).
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary, regionally dispersed research team, plus the motivation and discipline to carry out autonomous research.
  • High level written and oral communication skills with the ability to represent the research team effectively internally and externally, including the presentation of research outcomes at national and international conferences.

To be eligible to work in CSIRO you must be an Australian/ New Zealand Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or either hold, or be able to obtain, a valid working visa (sponsorship may be provided to eligible candidates).

 

Appointment to this role is subject to provision of a national police check and may be subject to other security/medical/character requirements.
