Position Summary

Performs a variety of diagnostic imaging and therapeutic procedures, for patients of all ages that requires the safe and effective use of radionuclides.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Utilizes protective shielding and prescribed safety standards for radioactive sources in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
  • Provides patient safety, as required.
  • Assists physician and/or prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals to the patient.
  • Responsible for performing radionuclide procedures on patients of all ages, inclusive of organ imaging, function studies, computer analysis and assisting the physician in the therapeutic administration of radioisotopes under prescribed conditions.
  • Responsible for routine and modified procedures requiring sound understanding of anatomical positioning, human physiology, and equipment for selection and modification of technical factors, which produce optimum results.
  • Assists in performing First Aid and CPR, as necessary.
  • Responsible for equipment calibration checks/field uniformity, and reporting/scheduling equipment maintenance, as necessary.
  • Maintains records of radioisotope receipt, use, storage and disposal in accordance with state and federal regulations governing the accountability for radioactive materials.
  • Develops, maintains and participates in staff educational programs. Provides technical instruction to other departments.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to maintain certification/licensure,and/or keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  • Attends departmental meetings as required and participates in the department continuing education program.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

  • Graduation from an accredited Nuclear Medicine Program
  • Graduation from an accredited Nuclear Medicine Program, either in General Nuclear Medicine and/or Positron Emission Tomography (PET)
  • New Graduates accepted.

Req. Certification/Licensure:

  • California State Certification in Nuclear Medicine (CNMT) and/or NMTCB; Venipuncture Certification
  • BLS (through the American Heart Association)

Preferred Experience:

  • One year Nuclear Medicine Technologist in either Outpatient or Hospital setting.
