Responsibilities:

• Performs technical and clerical functions in one or more laboratory areas. Assists with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing and transporting specimens.
• Maintains equipment and adequate stock of supplies. Maintains work area in a safe, aseptic and organized manner.
• Performs clerical duties including answering phones, data entry, filing.
• Communicates test results to physicians.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education:

• High School Diploma or GED.

Certifications:

• None required.

Complexity of Work:

• Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

• One year lab or clerical experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• Requires manual dexterity and visual acuity when handling specimens and utilizing instrumentation.
• Ability to safely handle potentially infectious patient specimens, carcinogenic substances, odorous and other hazardous materials to which they may be exposed.
• Requires ability to sit or stand extensively.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
