Job Summary
Department-Specific Responsibilities

Works collaboratively as a team-member of COLL+IT, which handles the IT needs of users in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Installs hardware, operating systems, and software for Linux/Apple computer systems.
Proficient with using JAMF and Canonical Landscape.
Provides experienced analysis and programming related to systems' design, development, and support.
Writes programs/scripts for various tasks required to carry out other duties.
Writes and maintains documentation of Linux/Apple computing systems within COLL+IT.
Consults with stakeholder(s) to define system requirements, problems, and proposals; conducts detailed studies, presents complex requirements/designs to the stakeholder(s), and obtains agreement and approval for proposed updates/changes.
Assigns addresses and set ACL and firewall rules, coordinating with UITS Network Operations Center.
Plans and assists in specification and procurement of Linux/Apple computer systems within COLL+IT.
Prepares conversion and systems implementation plans and schedules; translates system design to detailed program specifications.
Sets up and performs data backup and recovery for Linux/Apple computer system owners.
Provides computing support for other Linux/Apple computer systems owners in COLL+IT.
Uses on-the-job professional development time and opportunities to research and stay up-to-date with new standards, tools, and emerging technology and services and recommends possible short-term, mid-term, or long-term integration.
Performs daily maintenance and upgrades of hardware, OSes, and software for Linux/Apple computer systems.
Performs non-routine system maintenance on Linux/Apple computer systems.
Works collaboratively and independently, as needed.
General Responsibilities

Provides experienced analysis and programming related to the design, development, and support of systems.
Consults with stakeholder(s) to define system requirements, problems, and proposals; conducts detailed studies, presents detailed requirements/designs to the stakeholder(s), and obtains agreement and approval for proposed updates/changes.
Prepares conversion and systems implementation plans and schedules; translates system design to detailed program specifications.
Documents systems analysis and programming efforts (changes, new functionality, issue/problem resolution); performs system unit and integration testing and presents final test results to stakeholder(s) and/or leadership.
Researches and stays up-to-date with new standards, tools, and emerging technology and services and makes recommendations for possible short-term, mid-term or long-term integration.
Ensures that all protocols used in the design and programming of systems are up to date and compliant with university policies and standards.
Qualifications
EDUCATION

Required

Bachelor's degree (preferably in computer science or related field)
Preferred

Master's degree in a related field
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

2 years of systems programming/analysis or related experience
Preferred

2 years of systems programming/analysis/Linux & Apple systems administration or related experience
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered

Thorough understanding of the concepts underlying modern computer operating systems as well as a solid knowledge of computer networking principles and practices
Conceptual, analytical, and logical abilities and demonstrates organizational and project management skills
Knowledge and understanding of TCP/IP networking
Familiarity with OpenSCAP, CIS Workbench, NIST Standards and Framework, Fail2Ban
Knowledge of IU policies, procedures, and systems, including HRMS, KFS, and SIS

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
