Job Description

The Research Associate II will be working Chun Lab team members to assist with research on neurological diseases, particularly neurodegenerative disorders. Our studies on genomic mosaicism utilize a wide range of methodologies, predominantly short- and long-read sequencing technologies on bulk populations, small populations, and single nuclei from the human and mouse brain, that are supported by traditional cell and molecular biology techniques.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accurately follows protocols and troubleshoots problems; develops solutions to technical problems of moderate to high scope using independent thinking, literature, and colleagues as resources to solve problems
  • Works with human and mouse brain and other tissues
  • Ensures protocols, reports, and appropriate documentation are written to the highest standards
  • Determines methods and procedures on assignments and advances projects to achieve desired endpoints
  • Learns and uses modern sequencing technology platforms (e.g., Nanopore, PacBio combined with FACS, library preparation) to study neurodegenerative diseases

 

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in one the biological sciences, physics, or chemistry and five years relevant lab experience; Master’s degree in one the biological sciences, physics, or chemistry and three years relevant lab experience OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been attained is required; preference to background experience in molecular biology.

  • Must be flexible, innovative, and self-motivated
  • Have strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with a minimal level of supervision and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects as needed
  • Prior experience with modern sequencing technologies will be advantageous
