The Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University is seeking to a hire a Computer Consultant I. They must be able to install, support and troubleshoot a variety of operating systems and applications running on servers, desktop computers, laptops, mobile devices and peripherals.
The Computer Consultant I needs to be familiar with the Microsoft Active Directory framework and tools, Mac OS, and general network technology. They must be able to work effectively with faculty, staff and students, individually and in group settings. They must have strong written and oral communication skills.
Qualifications
The candidate should possess a two- or four-year degree in Information Technology or a related field.
An equivalent combination of education and experience plus a minimum of three years of relevant experience in computing and desktop support preferred.
Job Specific Qualifications
Must have advanced knowledge of personal computing devices.
Must understand the Microsoft Active Directory framework to manage and configure all directory objects.
Must understand Mac OS software installation and Mac hardware.
Must understand basic concepts of DNS/DHCP to provision and manage network objects.
Use well-developed analytical, technical, computer and oral and written communications skills.
Use independent judgment to coordinate resources and initiate actions within established guidelines to achieve departmental objectives.
Exhibit the ability to work with a diverse user population on a consistently professional basis.
Possess excellent time management skills.
Communicate clearly in both verbal and written formats.
Demonstrate the ability to manage complex workloads.
Responsibilities
Install, maintain and troubleshoot operating systems and applications on individual computers, departmental servers, laptops, mobile devices, and devices in all technology enabled facilities.
Work within the Active Directory framework to maintain user and computer objects.
Provide basic instruction to customers regarding campus computing best practices. Clearly communicate technical concepts to non-technical staff and customers.
Provide instruction and technical consulting on computing to students and staff.
Interact with others to analyze information/data, provide advice, opinions, and counsel utilizing problem solving skills.
