Information Technology Specialist, Center for Child & Human Development – Georgetown University Medical Center

Job Overview

The Georgetown University Center for Child and Human Development (GUCCHD) is dedicated to fostering a stronger society by promoting the wellbeing of ALL children, adults and families and creating more inclusive communities. We execute this mission through research, training & technical assistance, scholarship and thought leadership.

The Information Technology Specialist (ITS) provides information and resources support to project faculty and staff in an effort to build the technology capacity of the Center; and assists the Manager of Instructional & Information Technologies (MITT) in the use of technology in meeting the Center’s training and technical assistance goals. They apply excellent technical skills in managing a variety of online websites, design content (registrations, surveys, forms) and to run analytics on participant responses.

Under the direction of the MITT, the ITS makes updates to the Center’s websites using WordPress; and collaborates and manages multiple priorities to provide audio/visual and other technical support to webinars, and social media platforms. As well, they provide support for fully online virtual programming – and provide in-person IT support as necessary.

For online training and programmatic sessions, the ITS arranges for use of GU Canvas, collaborates with Project Director and MITT on event/course structure, and technically facilitates virtual sessions on Zoom, serving as the primary point of contact and support for the different users – and may assume host/co-host role as required. They facilitate content and file sharing, launch polls, create breakout rooms and suggest and implement other interactive add-ons.

The ITS supports speakers in preparation for an event; ensures adherence to GU and GUCCHD policies around HIPAA and other consent guidelines; and ensures 508 Compliance and address participant accommodations as appropriate. They initiate post event tasks, such as posting of webinar/zoom events to appropriate websites; ensure media for events are ready for publishing or other dissemination; and train students, faculty and staff on virtual programming technology, enabling them to effectively pivot from an in-person program to a fully online program.

As a member of the Information Technology team, the ITS may perform restorative and maintenance actions either remotely - or in some cases - at the GUCCHD DC office; respond to end user requests to check/repair problem equipment or software issues; and assist with technology related installations, moves, and configuration checks.

Work Interactions

Reporting to the MIIT and Administrator of the GUCCHD, the Information Technology Specialist has a key role in interactions with all faculty, staff, and students in support of research, training, and technical assistance; assists the MITT in supporting the efforts of 75 faculty and staff in the development and execution of information technology strategies for existing projects; and in supporting development of new projects and makes recommendations regarding Department needs and new resources.
