Job Description

Summary

Performs gross dissection of surgical specimens, selecting appropriate tissue to be submitted for histologic review and dictating verbal reports regarding the specimens.

Job Duties

  • Performs gross dissection using standard dissection protocols of surgical specimens, selecting appropriate tissue to be    submitted for histologic review.
  • Dictates verbal reports regarding the specimens in a clear, complete, sufficient manner.
  • Effectively communicates deficiencies to appropriate personnel, including deficiencies related to specimens, reports, paperwork, database information, and equipment.
  • Collects and catalogs fresh tissue for the special studies.
  • Prepares quality assurance reports.
  • Reviews and revise reports, CPT charge codes and obtain A-charges for international patients.
  • Instructs and advise personnel on pathology techniques and procedures.
  • Photographs specimens for documentation.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from accredited Pathologist Assistant Program or Bachelor's degree in Biological or Allied Health Sciences.
  • Six months of relevant experience if graduated from an accredited Pathology Assistant Program.
  • With a Bachelor’s degree in Biological or Allied Health Sciences, two years of related experience..
  • Certified as a Pathologist’s Assistant by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP-PA).
