Job Description

Summary

The MA I position is in the McNair Infusion Suite. The MA should be proficient in taking vital signs, giving medications by various forms on their scope of practice, EMR, phone etiquette, stocking, organization, scheduling/changing appointments. 

Job Duties

  • Schedules patients follow up appointments according to the treatment/therapy plan.
  • Obtains vital signs from patients coming into the infusion suite i.e. BP, HR, Temp, RR.
  • Performs routine patient care responsibilities such as taking vital signs, venipuncture (blood draws), collect specimens, EKGs/ECGs, and POCTs.
  •  Administers PO, IM, SQ medication under the supervision and delegation of the RN, LVN.
  • Orders supplies needed for the infusion suite through SAP.
  • Orders snacks for the patients of the infusion suite through Lone Star Coffee Supplier. 
  • Keeps the infusion suite tidy, cleans chairs after each patient leaves.
  • Obtains medications from the 7th floor pharmacy and brings back to the 9th floor multiple times a day.
  • Receives and verifies supplies, puts up supplies and keeps track of infusion suite inventory. 
  • Responds to routine patient phone calls pertaining to questions on appointment through phone and Mychart messages.
  • Monitors In Baskets and set appointments when infusion scheduler is out, when needed.
  • Instructs patients on general care and medical procedures as appropriate to the scope of practice for an MA.
  • Answers phone in infusion suite for Live Answer back up.
  • Other duties assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and completion of an approved Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NAHP, NHA, NAHP, AMCA, or NRMA). New employees who are not currently certified, must obtain certification within six months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Customer Service Skills.
  • Proficient in EPIC.
  • Two years of Medical Assistant experience.
