Job Description

Opportunity identification:

  • Establish connect with GTE and PGS  teams globally and negotiate to bring  new project opportunities for IIT Madras collaboration.
  • Work closely with Small Molecule Technology team external innovation program and explore the opportunity to work in IIT Madras based on the expertise and capability availability
  • Business case to be developed for the potential collaborative projects
  • Develop understanding of research areas at IIT Madras, and relationships with faculty, to identify potential areas of benefit for Pfizer.
  • Promote IIT Madras research opportunities with other Pfizer teams
  • Facilitate other opportunities to earn credit points – guest lectures, consultancy, internships, recruitment etc.

Alliance Management Responsibility:

  • Define objectives, strategies necessary to realize scientific collaboration opportunities with IIT Madras on the specific areas of interest to Pfizer encompassing Process technology & Analytical technology .
  • This role is accountable for GT&E  ensuring the requisite credit points are met on an annual basis, via identified collaboration activities.
  • Influence Pfizer stakeholders as well as IIT Madras staff to reach mutually beneficial relationships for scientific collaboration.
  • Lead the alliance and partnership with IIT Madras for all collaboration activities - scientific projects, academic work, sponsorships, internships, guest lectures etc.
  • Manage relationships with IIT Madras Research Park for collaborations
  • Network and identify suitable partners at the Research Park – start-ups, research institutions or commercial organizations.
  • Perform strategic project resources planning and financial analysis, including assisting in preparation of budgets.
  • Monitor project progress and communicate project information and status to relevant parties. Provide early warning and escalation of key issues to stakeholders and/or subject matter experts.
  • Develop impactful stakeholder communications and metrics on projects progress
  • Identify new areas and platform technologies, from across Pharma Industry, other industries, or academia that could transform manufacturing operations aligning with strategic direction requirements in the Pfizer network (PGS and WRD)

Project Management Responsibility:

  • Driving program, develop program strategy, and has overall accountability project delivery meeting all the compliance requirements
  • Supporting Analytical method validation, Impurity synthesis , process safety group and other support as required for network &  management of CRO / CMO’s

Governance and portfolio management

  • Strike purpose-driven appropriate business agreements with external parties, balancing short term objectives with long term opportunities. Decide or recommend suitable terms in consultation with key stakeholders – GT&E , PGS, Legal and India Legal.
  • Establish governance mechanism for monitoring, control and decision making
  • Manage the portfolio of projects  under collaboration with IIT Madras. This includes  financials, timeline, and scope of services

Project Planning and Execution

  • Drive planning and execution of identified projects, where necessary.
  • Provide guidance for appropriate legal documentation to be implemented for all discussions
  • Serve as liaison for global team members who collaborate with IIT Madras or other third parties in India

Communication Skills

  • Ensures effective, accurate, and timely communication of program information to meet the needs of the team and stakeholders
  • Supports to achieve project level goals that contribute to the overall goals of the business and monitors progress against these goals.
  • Work with external partnership team in developing newsletter for synergy site for the  projects carried out at IIT Madras also at PGS and WRD newsletters

Ability to Influence and Motivate

  • Role requires leadership primarily by influence
  • Clarifies project deliverables/workload to enable partner lines to assess resource needs, raise gaps, and partner with team leadership to resolve

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in sciences, pharmaceutics or engineering required.
  • 8 – 10 years’ experience in pharma or allied industry, with minimum 5 years in management roles (Project management or planning)
  • Demonstrated influencing and negotiating skills.  High awareness of personal limits and a willingness to proactively consult others to ensure quality of judgement
  • Experience in project management, development.  Exposure to project governance and/or alliance management.
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams as well as working independently in ambiguous situations/assignments, gathering input from colleagues and management to address issues
  • Familiarity with planning, scheduling, and forecasting.
  • Requires excellent English oral and written communication skills. And the ability to understand and convey scientific information to varied audience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Familiarity with research development process and/or pharmaceutical manufacturing
  • Strong leadership, negotiation, interpersonal, and facilitation skills.
  • Familiarity with project management tools and techniques (such as developing integrated project plans, critical path management, project change control, project risk management, and decision analysis).
  • Experience managing alliances and partnerships in global environment.
  • Proven ability to succeed in a fast-paced, challenging and complex environment.
