Job Description

The Materials Science Division has an opening position for a postdoctoral appointee. The research project aims at the study of new quantum materials such as superconductors which involves significant effort in exploratory synthesis and crystal growth in a wide range of material systems and characterization by structural, optical, magnetic and electrical property measurements. The candidate is expected to independently conduct research in a highly interdisciplinary environment of chemists, physicists, and materials scientists.

Position Requirements

  • Ph.D. in chemistry, physics, materials science, degree level with 0 to 3 years of experience or equivalent

  • (Essential) primary major in high temperature synthesis and crystal growth solid state bulk materials in the area of chalcogenides, pnictides, oxides, halides, and intermetallic alloys

  • Must have a strong track record of solid-state synthesis and single crystal characterization of new compounds

  • A strong experimental and theoretical background in crystallography, magnetism, transport property measurements, and electron microscopy

  • Good written and oral communication skills

  • The candidate is expected to think and work independently and conduct research in a highly interdisciplinary environment of chemist, physicist and materials scientists

  • The following majors are NOT considered for this position: nano science, thin films, and organic or bio-related materials
