Job Description
The School of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering (AME) of the Gallogly College of Engineering at the University of Oklahoma seeks applicants for a full-time tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in the area of sustainable composite materials to begin in Fall 2023. The successful candidate will develop a nationally recognized funded research program related to the development and characterization of recyclable/sustainable and multifunctional self-repairing composites, working independently and in collaboration with faculty members in AME and in the School of Chemical, Biological and Materials Engineering, and contributing to the College research cluster on advanced manufacturing and materials. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and be a supportive mentor to undergraduate and graduate students in both curriculum and research. Successful candidates will demonstrate a passion for research together with innovative instructional practice in the classroom.
AME currently has 31 faculty members and more than 700 students. Both AME and the College are experiencing strong growth in research, student enrollment, and donations. AME maintains a collegial culture with faculty members helping and supporting one another. In addition to collaborating within AME, faculty members collaborate with those from other schools in the College on research projects of mutual interest. Several resources, such as the college new faculty mentorship program and the university's Center for Faculty Excellence, are available for the development of junior faculty members. The AME student body is of high quality with several National Merit Scholars. As part of a Carnegie R-1 comprehensive public research university, AME continues to provide a great educational experience for the students.
Required:
- PhD in mechanical engineering or a related field
- Research experience in composite materials
Preferences (Not Required):
- Teaching experience
- Experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate students
- Understanding of chemistry of composite materials
