JOB SUMMARY:
The School of Medicine and Public Health is looking for a creative designer who can conceptualize, design and develop web content that meets mission-driven marketing, communications, and storytelling goals. This role calls for a web designer who is experienced in user-centered design principles, has excellent communication skills, and shares our commitment to creating inclusive and accessible digital content.

The Web Design Manager will be responsible for working closely with colleagues, researchers, and content experts to gather requirements, advocate for best practices and make recommendations based on data and target audience. The ideal candidate will be proactive, collaborative, organized and detail oriented and will be a direct contributor to the re-design, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the school's flagship website, med.wisc.edu, as well as several other web properties.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Leads and participates in the design, development, implementation, maintenance, and support of websites. Serves as a subject matter expert, consultant, and main point of contact to internal and external stakeholders regarding website support.
30% Plans, implements, manages, monitors, and upgrades the unit's websites including intranets
30% Ensures website functionality and maintains existing website operation including implementing the content management system (CMS), making content updates, conducting content audits, and updating computer programming languages which may include HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
5% Responds and troubleshoots website issues
10% Ensures website quality, efficiency, and compliance with accessibility, security, privacy, and other university requirements and laws
10% Strategizes ways to improve the user experience of the website and manages information architecture strategy
5% Monitors web traffic and website performance, and assesses performance to optimize the website and to identify, prevent, and resolve issues
10% Collaborates with others to ensure that the website aligns with brand strategy and meets the unit's standards

EDUCATION:
Preferred
Associate's Degree
Degree in graphic design, computer science, or related field preferred

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
-Minimum 2 years of relevant professional experience as a web designer
-Experience designing web sites in a content management system
-Experience designing responsive websites
-Working knowledge of HTML and CSS
-Strong work samples that demonstrate web design capabilities

Preferred:
-Experience designing WordPress websites
-Proficiency in Adobe XD, Photoshop and Illustrator
-Experience creating content and designs that meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) AA standards
-Understanding of search engine optimization methodologies
-Experience with Google Analytics

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-Strong understanding of graphic design principles
-Ability to manage large websites and successfully deliver deadline-driven projects
-Commitment to staying current with web design best practices, issues, and trends
-Ability to find creative design solutions while working within existing brand and editorial guidelines
