Job Description

The Anne and Henry Zarrow School of Social Work at the University of Oklahoma seeks an energetic and innovative social work instructor to join our dynamic faculty team beginning July 2023. This position is within our rapidly growing Online MSW Program and will involve teaching students in a virtual environment. We are especially interested in candidates who build collaborative ties with other departments within the school and university and the community through their teaching and service.

The School is looking to find dynamic social work educators who will be responsible for teaching online MSW students, possibly providing supervision to students in field practicum, advising students and participating in service activities within the School. The School seeks applicants with expertise in one or more of the following areas: macro practice, community practice, policy practice, health, clinical social work practice, mental health, and substance abuse. We also welcome candidates with social work training experience, including simulation, supervising social workers and social work students, and continuing education.

The Online MSW Program launched in 2019 and has rapidly grown to reach students across the nation and internationally. The program has successfully maintained a high standard of MSW education while bringing social work to rural areas, working students, military bases, and other environments that make online education an option for career progression and social work skill development. Home to the largest MSW program in Oklahoma, the School offers fully accredited Master and Bachelor Social Work Programs to 700+ students annually, and is dedicated to the enhancement of human well-being, alleviation of poverty and oppression through high quality education and research. Visit socialwork.ou.edu for more information. Oklahoma is a state with geographic diversity including urban, metropolitan, and rural and frontier areas, and considerable socio-demographic and cultural diversity. Oklahoma ranks low in performance on almost all health and well-being measures, and this indication of high need places the Anne and Henry Zarrow School of Social Work in a position of responding to considerable social problems. With two physical campuses (Norman and Tulsa), and an Online MSW Program, the School delivers the largest undergraduate and graduate programs of social work in the state, and has the responsibility for educating a diverse array of graduate students for a variety of professional Social Work practice fields. The School thrives on a collegial, engaged, and supportive environment.

The University of Oklahoma (OU) is a Carnegie-R1 comprehensive public research university known for excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement, serving the educational, cultural, economic and healthcare needs of the state, region, and nation from three campuses: Norman, Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, the Schusterman Center in Tulsa, and rapidly expanding online delivery programs. OU enrolls over 30,000 students and has more than 2700 full-time faculty members in 21 colleges. In 2014, OU became the first public institution ever to rank #1 nationally in the recruitment of National Merit Scholars, with 311 scholars.

Description: The Social Work Online Instructor is a 12-month appointment. Position responsibilities include online teaching graduate courses in both foundation and advanced practice curriculums (load of 4 + 4) plus service to the School, college, and profession. The instructor may teach across the programs including day, evening, weekend, Norman, Oklahoma City, or Tulsa courses as well as field liaison. While teaching responsibilities will be primarily online, the instructor will be required to attend in person meetings with faculty or with students as needed. The School is willing to hire the successful candidate on either the Norman or Tulsa campus.

Salary: Salary for the position will be dependent upon applicant qualifications and experience.
