Job Description

The Tissue Core Facility at the Moffitt Cancer Center is seeking a talented and motivated individual to join the Tissue Core as a Laboratory Quality and Equipment Supervisor.

This position is responsible for administering and supervising the day to day implementation, performance, and communication of the Tissue Core Quality Management System (QMS). This position is responsible for personnel supervision, performance management, training, mentoring, and recruitment of Operations Assistants.

This position is responsible for:

  • Oversight, development, testing, documentation, and training of the Tissue Core Document Control System in collaboration with Research Information Technology, other applicable core facilities, and the system vendor
  • Overall management and function of the Tissue Core's laboratory and cold storage equipment
  • Serves as the biological and chemical safety officer in conjunction with Infection control, Research Health and Safety.
  • Liaison with Moffitt departments, namely Anatomic Pathology, vendors, and sponsors to coordinate the collection, retrieval, and shipment of project related specimens

As such, this candidte needs position must meet the following skills:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of one or more of the following topics: collection, processing, storage, and/or shipping of biological specimens.
  • Documented working knowledge of databases and inventories.
  • Ability to function independently as a member of a large team.
  • Motivates people to achieve excellence.
  • Works with multiple leadership and staffing levels and with multiple business units to achieve quality management goals.
  • Must have excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Ability to train personnel on quality standards and practices.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio, and Project.
  • Performs assigned tasks and learns new procedures under minimal direction of senior staff
  • Candidate must demonstrate the ability to apply related concepts in broadly defined means with minimal guidance.
  • Attends in-house courses, seminars, and workshops, related to core activities and cancer biology.
  • Experience qualifying, maintaining and/or calibrating laboratory equipment strongly preferred.
  • Experience with project management software and maintenance and development of electronic databases preferred.

 

Qualifications:

•  Education: Bachelor's Degree in science or health-related field required. Preferred degree: Masters in Epidemiology, Public health or related field

• 5 years of experience in related field

 Preferred Experience: 

•  Master’s Degree

• Direct laboratory experience

• 2 years experience in Core Facility

• Experience in facility accreditation process

• 1 year supervisor experience
