ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:

The Department of Cell Biology, Microbiology, and Molecular Biology is a comprehensive research and training department. POSITION SUMMARY:

The Teaching Lab Specialist for Cell Biology, Microbiology, and Molecular Biology will assist the Teaching Laboratory Manager and Laboratory Course Supervisors to ensure department lab courses are successfully implemented. This position will assist with many day to day logistics of the teaching labs, including regular communication with course coordinators, TAs and adjunct instructors, making sure that the labs are fully functional and operating smoothly and safely.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serve as the EH&S Liasion for the CMMB Teaching Labs:
-Help write SOPs
-Manage teaching lab waste pickup and supplies
-Manage Chematix
-Prepare for EH&S teaching lab inspections

Track packages and teaching lab supply and equipment orders
-Maintain the teaching lab ordering spreadsheet
-Track packages received and notify the appropriate teaching lab personnel of items obtained
-Assist with package pickup and delivery
-Assist with communications to the purchasing department regarding orders
-Assist with local supply purchases and delivery

-Keep teaching labs adequately maintained
-Check and stock general lab supplies
-Maintain proper hygiene of the teaching laboratories
-Assist with lab demonstrations

-Perform minor maintenance and repairs on teaching lab equipment
-Coordinate with the Equipment Engineer for equipment requiring more extensive repairs
-Conduct and update inventory of teaching laboratory supplies and equipment
-Track equipment repairs and maintain a log for necessary equipment replacement

-Assist faculty members with the development of curriculum for teaching laboratory experiments.

Performs other teaching laboratory duties as assigned by the Teaching Laboratory Manager and Lab Course Supervisors.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM:

This position requires high school diploma and two years of work experience in instructional or laboratory work. College coursework may be substituted for the required experience.

PREFERRED:

MS in biology or a relevant field and/or experience working in a molecular biology lab.
