Job Description

This position is to serve as the Regional Training and Operations Manager for RAP Region V. This position has responsibilities to:

  • Develop and maintain training plans for RAP Region 5

  • Plan and coordinate training, drills and exercises

  • Develop and deliver training for Federal, State, Tribal, Territorial, and Local (FSTTL) partners. This also includes attending meetings; development and delivery of presentations; and participation in drills and exercises.

  • Coordinate with other regions to ensure best practices are standardized

  • Develop a Regional Outreach Plan

  • Develop and deliver outreach materials

  • Participate and attend in conference calls and group meetings as required.

Advises the Department of Energy`s (DOE) Radiological Assistance Program Regional Response Coordinator (RRC) on training and outreach for the RAP Program for DOE Region V. This position also will require compliance with tasking from the Regional Operations Manager for other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

To be considered you must have:

  • Knowledge and skill sufficient to plan, organize, design and conduct training and outreach to emergency management and other FSTTL partners.

  • Excellent organization, communication, and networking skills.  

  • Knowledge and skills to provide training on scientific principles and equipment capabilities to technical personnel within RAP and outside the DOE community.

  • Knowledge and skill in planning and participation in emergency response operations.

  • Skill in project management.

  • Ability to communicate assessment of radiological data to non-technical decision makers in an emergency situation.

  • Ability to effectively communicate problems and solutions to team members and the RAP RRC, both orally and in writing, and maintain interpersonal relations are essential.

  • Ability to effectively communicate orally with other state, federal, tribal and local agencies as needed through outreach and training activities is essential.

Education:

  • RD4: Bachelor’s and 12+years, Master’s and 7+years, or Doctorate and 6+ years.

  • RD5: Bachelor’s and 15+ years, Master’s and 12+ years, or Doctorate and 10+ years.

Other:

  • Experience in the analysis of special nuclear material in classified configurations is highly desirable.

  • A current DOE "Q" / SCI clearance is required for this position.

  • Previous Emergency Response experience, radiation detection experience and/or Health Physics Certification is desirable.
