Summary

The Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine section within the Department of Medicine seeking a Respiratory Therapist to see patients in our outpatient pulmonary clinic.  Procedures performed include, but are not limited to, pulmonary function testing, spirometry, and six minute walk.  The position is required to work well within a team environment, be organized, and have great communication skills.

 

The successful candidate will have exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, be regarded as a team player, have strong and proven organizational skills, and have a personal drive to be their best. Experience working with Epic EHR preferred. Previous work experience in an academic medicine environment is preferred.

 

This position is located at the McNair Campus in the Texas Medical Center.

Job Duties

  • Initiates, evaluates, and reviews pulmonary care plans to identify contraindications and possible complications.  
  • Assesses the pulmonary care needs of outpatient clinic and research patients.
  • Sets up and maintain respiratory equipment and inventory.
  • Checks schedule daily/weekly to ensure optimized clinic utilization and schedule patients from wait list if needed. 
  • Ensures patients are scheduled for COVID-19 testing prior to scheduled procedure (when applicable).
  • Ensures appropriate clinical documentation is in place.
  • Performs blood gas analysis and pulmonary function test.
  • Manages PFT accreditation records and standards. Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and assist with re-accreditation process.
  • Maintains patient records.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from an approved school of Respiratory Therapy.
  • One year of relevant experience.
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) by The National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRCO).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT).
  • Two years of Respiratory Therapy experience to include Pulmonary Function Test Experience.
