Job Description

The Nuclear Science and Engineering Division is seeking a highly motivated Nuclear Engineer to join the Nuclear Applications and Economics group (https://www.anl.gov/nse/nuclear-applications-and-economics). This position seeks experience in several technical fields including but not limited to nuclear economics, grid market modeling and analysis, and advanced reactor design and modeling. The individuals may: 1) Perform economics analyses of nuclear reactors and facilities, and energy market modeling; 2) Contribute to the design and analysis of advanced nuclear reactors such as SFRs, MSRs, HTGRs, and Micro-reactors and their associated fuel cycles; 3) Develop and apply computational strategies to improve the modeling & simulation of nuclear and energy market economics analyses; 4) Produce papers and reports describing results of development work, analyses, and investigations.

Position Requirements

  • Knowledge of nuclear engineering principles, theories, and practices for the design and analysis of reactor systems.

  • Research experience in one or more specialized area of nuclear science and engineering.

  • Experience in economics applied to energy market systems modeling.

  • Experience in costing analyses of nuclear facilities.

  • Experience in the development and/or application of nuclear reactor physics and economics codes.

  • Experience in computer programming and scripting.

  • Skill in the conception, design, and evaluation of innovative approaches and solutions to quantitative problems.

  • Skills in the use of computers and in the analysis of computational results, clear and effective documentation and communication of results, and interaction with co-workers and support personnel.

  • Experience with writing funding proposals for innovative ideas.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal, oral, and written communication. Ability to model Argonne’s Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork.

This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in nuclear engineering, physics, or a related field with a Ph.D. and 0+ Years of experience, Master’s and 3+ years of experience, or Bachelor’s and 5+ years of experience or equivalent.
