Job DescriptionJOB SUMMARY:
The Jorgensen Laboratory team is recruiting for a Scientist III to serve as laboratory manager. They will help to onboard and train new staff, and may supervise staff. Identifies research problems, designs research methodologies, performs and supervises research. This individual will develop and test hypotheses. The methods for testing will include but are not limited to challenging technologies including CUT&RUN from FACS isolated embryonic cells, viral transduction and culture of tissues from embryonic and perinatal mice, standard and small molecule fluorescent in situ hybridization, harvest of tissues from mice ranging from early embryonic-to aged adult stages and downstream processing for copy number quantitative PCR, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence, and other histological analyses. The individual will also have knowledge and expertise in basic physiological testing, mostly for urinary and reproductive tract biology. This will include extensive knowledge of the endocrine system, especially related to sex steroids and sex-specific differences. The successful applicant will also be responsible for developing high quality science communication products including visual and written presentations, progress reports, manuscripts and grant applications.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Identifies research problems, designs research methodologies, performs and supervises research, and prepares and presents results for presentation to professional organizations or for scholarly publications. May supervise staff.
15% Identifies research problems and develops highly complex research methodologies and procedures. Publishes and presents results to help advance research
20% Collects and analyzes highly complex research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures
5% Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials and, disseminates information to appropriate entities
5% Attends and assists with the facilitation of scholarly events and presentations in support of continued professional development and the dissemination of research information
10% Identifies, writes, or assists in developing grant opportunities, grant applications, and proposals to secure research funding
15% May supervise the day-to-day activities of a research unit and staff and resolve routine personnel issues
5% Serves as an institutional subject matter expert and liaison with key internal and external stakeholders providing expert level information and representing the interests of a specialized research area
5% Monitors program budget and approves unit expenditures
5% Perform in vivo and in vitro evaluation of lower urinary tract function, including performing and analyzing void spot assays, uroflowmetry, and awake and anesthetized cystometry.
5% Perform microsurgery, especially in procedures within mouse embryos and mouse urogenital/reproductive tract systems and in mechanisms that relate to fetal development of adult disease, especially related to urinary and reproductive systems.
5% Work with genetic mouse models including managing colonies of multiple mouse strains, designing strategic Cre-loxP crosses to target specific cell types, and designing and executing timed-mating experiments.
5% Perform cellular and molecular techniques using rodent model systems
