A well-funded research laboratory at the Department of Ophthalmology, Cullen Eye Institute, Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a talented and motivated Postdoctoral Associate to participate in the exciting and innovative translational research project. The project aims to develop next-generation technology of ligandomics for drug target discovery. Ligandomics is a new technology invented by the our group to globally map disease-selective cellular ligands. Compared to transcriptomics and proteomics, ligandomics has the following advantages for drug target discovery: i) global mapping of cellular ligands with high intrinsic therapeutic potential; ii) profiling of protein function instead of expression; and iii) providing binding selectivity as a quantitative functional criterion for target selection. This project is to improve ligandomics technology and will apply ligandomics profiling to different disease models, followed by binding and functional validation of identified targets. Research activities include conducting experiments in molecular biology, protein biochemistry, cell biology, immunohistochemistry, and animal research with different disease models. The candidates will have the opportunity to learn all the cutting-edge molecular techniques, including ligandomics screening, therapeutic target validation, and drug design, as well as surgical and non-surgical methods to establish mouse models of ocular vascular diseases. In addition, the candidates will participate in manuscript preparation to publish papers in high-impact journals, attend and present at national/international meetings, and engage in grant writing to apply for the postdoctoral fellowship/young investigator grants.

- Characterizes disease-specific regulatory molecules in cell culture and animals.
- Characterizes different ligands that regulate diseased but not healthy vasculatures.
- Identifies disease-specific receptors that contribute to the pathogenesis in diseased but not healthy vessels.
- Develops novel ligand-guided disease-targeted therapies; and 6) to characterize these novel therapies in cell cultures and animal models.

- MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
