The Web Strategy Director is responsible for the digital design strategy and execution of jcesom.marshall.edu, www.marshallhealth.org,intranet.marshallhealth.org and other, affiliated sites. This position is responsible for creating the look and feel of the School of Medicine’s web templates in line with those of Marshall University, as well as for key digital marketing tools, such as the homepage and admissions related pages. This position, as a key member of the School of Medicine’s Information Technology and Marketing teams, ensures all websites under the main JCESOM and marshallhealth.org domains, including the top level and subsites, are well designed, easy to navigate and properly maintained within our content management system. The position works in an environment where independent action and a high degree of initiative are required. The position is also responsible for making recommendations and implementing processes, methods and programs to continually improve the School of Medicine’s web pages and web presence.

Job duties for this position include:

Content Management Duties
Develop and oversee an overall strategy for the School of Medicine and Marshall Health websites based on user needs
and stakeholder objectives.
Design website templates using WordPress content management system (CMS) and various plugins. Develop shortcodes for JCESOM web administrators to use to enhance their sites.
Collaborate with staff in the offices of Marketing and Information Technology to ensure compliance with policies and standards
around brand standards, web content and online accessibility.
Research content strategies in higher education and the web industry and makes strategic recommendations for new content and web-based services to meet university strategic goals
relating to the web and recruiting
Manage projects to assure quality and meet deadlines relating to new web initiatives.
Help Marketing liaisons update and maintain the department
webpages.
Create new and update existing content using contemporary web design best practices optimized for access to information, user
experience and search engine optimization.
Ensure all units within the JCESOM and Marshall Health are adequately represented on the website.
Keep website content up to date and eliminate outdated and/or
irrelevant content.
Implement search engine optimization (SEO) strategy, improving site ranking in organic search results.
Lead collaborative project work teams as appropriate or serve as
collaborative team member. Develop processes in a team environment to assure quality of web content projects.
Coordinate the collection of design, photography, interactive and programming components needed in the production of new web content for websites.
Develop and deliver training in relation to web content creation and management.
Perform image manipulation tasks such as creating thumbnails, image resize, file format conversion and image edits.
Create and maintain multimedia, including photo galleries, slideshows and videos embedded in web pages.
Manage all work requests within a tracking system. Verify that all content is approved through proper channels and systems prior to posting.

Marketing and Communications Duties

Craft compelling stories that highlight the work of students, faculty and staff, and support the strategic priorities of the School of Medicine.
Write and produce multimedia features and articles that support the School of Medicine’s mission and strategic vision.
Populate and update news pages and sections of the website.
Demonstrate strong editorial judgment in determining the best way to promote university-wide information to appropriate audience segments and exhibit sound judgment for publicizing sensitive School of Medicine and Marshall Health information.
Collaborate with other JCESOM and Marshall Health leadership and staff to develop plans and goals for the office to support the strategic plan and vision.

Technical Support Duties

Assess content performance using web analytic programs and other monitoring tools. Identify and implement needed adjustments.
Respond promptly, accurately and efficiently to requests from staff and administration for website updates and assistance.
Troubleshoot and resolve basic technical issues working with the appropriate individuals in the Information Technology department to resolve more complicated issues.
Manage web content projects throughout all phases of development, wireframes, storyboarding, timeline, scheduling and final production.
Work with other staff in Marketing, Information Technology and web teams to plan and execute major website initiatives and projects.
Perform other related duties as assigned or requested


Salary Range $45,700- $59,400 Salary is commensurate with experience and internal equity
