Job Description

A 2-year translational research fellowship in Cardiovascular Endocrinology is available at Brigham and Women’s Hospital / Harvard Medical School. The program is designed to prepare scientists for successful research careers in Endocrinology, Cardiology, Nephrology and/or Hypertension. Graduates are equipped with state-of-the-art tools, in both bench and human research, to be well prepared for success at the next stage of their careers.

Over the past 40 years, the vast majority of our graduates have achieved thriving research careers in academia, government, or industry.

The program investigates the genetic underpinnings of hormonal (focusing on aldosterone) mechanisms associated with cardiovascular and renal phenotypes of hypertension, diabetes, and obesity. The pre-clinical research training includes studies in cell, organ and animal physiology, and in molecular biology. Genes currently under investigation include: caveolin 1, angiotensinogen, LSD1, striatin, mTORC, beta 2 adrenergic receptor and estrogen receptor beta. The training in patient-oriented research is uniquely associated with a human genetics’ unit in an overall translational research group. Our common goal is to develop specific approaches to personalized medicine to improve blood pressure control and reduce cardiac and renal disease in hypertension, diabetes, and obesity.

Candidates should have a PhD and/or MD and must be a US citizen or permanent resident.
