Job Description

Summary

The Research Coordinator I will coordinate day-to-day activities of the Genetics for Diabetes in Diverse Children study at Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children's Hospital (lead site) and communicates with other sites in this multicenter study. The responsibilities for this position includes screening, enrolling, and conducting follow-up with research participants; conducting and monitoring data collection and data quality; evaluating effectiveness of various recruitment strategies; communicating with other study sites; and performing all study related activities in accordance with IRB guidelines and ethical practices.

Job Duties

  • Uses research functions within the electronic medical record (Epic) to effectively identify potential participants.
  • Explains all study processes and procedures to potential participants, as well as risks and benefits of participation. This may require speaking Spanish or using a translator.
  • Supports families with study registration by phone, email, in clinic and/or during live enrollments events. This may require working non-traditional hours, such as evenings and/or weekends. It may also require travel to Texas Children's Hospital Health Centers (e.g., West Campus, The Woodlands, etc.). \
  • Collects blood sample for genetic and other analysis on children and adolescents or escorts them to the lab.
  • Corresponds with participants as needed throughout the study to answer questions, resolve problems, and provide support with the return of genetic findings.
  • Orders supplies for the study.
  • Schedules follow-up appointments.
  • Collects blood sample for analysis on children and adolescents or escorts participants to lab for blood draw.
  • Handles data collection and quality monitoring
  • Collects, ships, and maintains paperwork for biological specimens, according to procedures outlined In the study protocol.
  • Communicates with the data management center, and other study sites as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  •  High School diploma or GED.
  • Three years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
