Job Description

The technician will collect and analyze data to gain insight into the ways that big data can improve predictors of aquatic invasive species spread pathways under the supervision of Dr. Paul Venturelli.

This position requires a technician to collect and analyze data to satisfy the requirements of a newly funded grant with Dr. Paul Venturelli.

Job Function:

The technician will collect and analyze data to gain insight into the ways that big data can improve predictors of aquatic invasive species spread pathways under the supervision of Dr. Paul Venturelli.

Minimum Education:

BS or BA in Biology or related field.

Preferred Education:

BS/BA in Fisheries Science or related field.

Minimum Experience:

Experience working with the statistical/graphical software package R (or similar), GIS software, and Excel.

Preferred Experience:

Coursework related to fisheries management.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop an inventory of each data source used (spatial and temporal coverage, cost, benefits, biases, etc.)
  • Compare the lake connectivity network structure that is predicted by each data set.
  • Determine how well each data set, individually and in combination, predicts the presence, absence and spread of different aquatic invasive species.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
