An essential component of Pfizer at Sandwich, our Pharmaceutical Sciences function supports Pfizer’s early to late-stage portfolio, translating new chemical entities into commercial drug products. Pharmaceutical Sciences at Sandwich is a fully integrated Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls capability that encompasses state of the art active pharmaceutical ingredient synthesis and drug product design as well as a cGMP manufacturing and clinical trials supply chain. Within Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Drug Product Development (DPD) department utilises expertise in materials science, predictive science, formulation design and process understanding to deliver new small molecule medicines.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
We are seeking an experienced scientist with excellent people skills and well-established project leadership credentials to join our Research and Development teams in Sandwich. Your role will be to work in a team of research and technical staff, under supervision of a team leader to design, characterise, develop, and commercialise adult and paediatric dosage forms.
Contribute to/lead project teams of scientists in Research & Development activities associated with novel product development including oral solids and liquids and parenteral products, using technical knowledge, project management and organisational skills
Apply extensive knowledge and experience of pharmaceutical development to guide the development of robust pharmaceutical products, processes, and control strategies.
Provide exemplary support to projects at all phases of clinical development through to commercial approval
Act as a line representative on multidisciplinary project teams
Author sections of CMC regulatory documentation
Provide technical mentoring and support to colleagues within the project teams and the department and actively participate in knowledge management activities
Actively seek to identify and implement new technologies, process improvements, predictive science tools and digital design approaches
Maintain written records of experimental work in accordance with GLP and departmental philosophies and review, prioritise and critique other colleagues’ experimental work to same standard
Direct and contribute to departmental operational activities (e.g., learning culture, safety, resource forecasting)
QUALIFICATIONS/ SKILLS
Significant experience in the pharmaceutical or related environment
PhD in a relevant discipline or Honours degree in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Physical Organic Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline
Experienced in matrix leadership of technical projects teams
Proven track record of applying predictive science and Quality by Design principles to experiments and solving technical problems for small molecule dosage forms across a broad range of manufacturing technologies to influence Pfizer’s development strategy
Excellent communication skills to report and convey findings clearly within the department and to other Pharmaceutical Sciences lines and commercial manufacturing
Proficient working in and acting as a line representative on cross-functional project teams and partners with other teams within Pharmaceutical Sciences such as chemists, engineers, analysts, as well as with other groups within the wider Pfizer organisation, and external vendors
Demonstrable problem-solving skills, and applies these skills to scientific, technical and operational challenges
Good understanding of the requirements of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) for the manufacture of clinical and commercial supplies and appreciation of CMC regulatory requirements
Able to lead and contribute to departmental operational activities and initiatives
