Role Description

As a Scientist in the Secondary Pharmacology group, you will be responsible for supporting drug discovery by implementing and troubleshooting in vitro experiments to assess the off-target pharmacology of novel compounds using both cellular and biochemical assays. 

Responsibilities

Work independently and as part of a team to help design, execute, analyze / interpret data generated from experiments from in vitro cell based assays. Specific duties to include:

  • Apply scientific knowledge in running early in-vitro safety screening assays (384 well plate based; medium throughput) using a range of in vitro cell based, enzyme assays and transporter assays.
  • Support screening efforts by performing aseptic cell culture work for multiple cell lines.
  • Maintain detailed experimental records and prepare study summaries and technical reports.
  • Have a working knowledge of analysis tools such as Excel, GraphPad, Biobook and PowerPoint for experimental documentation and data analysis/presentations.
  • Contribute to building an innovative culture that embraces scientific excellence, urgency, partnerships with key stakeholders, continuous learning and improvement, increasing technical skill base and in vitro expertise; take a proactive role in personal growth and scientific development.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree plus 6 years' laboratory experience in Cell Biology, Biochemistry or Pharmacology (or related field).
  • Previous experience running cell/enzyme-based assay platforms in a medium throughput environment. Experience using plate-based instrumentation (liquid handling, fluorescent plate readers, plate-based scintillation counters
  • Cell culture experience
  • Strong basic mathematical skills and ability to calculate dilutions on the fly.
  • Eagerness to learn new laboratory techniques
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment and meet aggressive deadlines.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills as well as ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision. Team player attitude and strong work ethic is a must.
  • Excellent time-management skills and ability to follow pre-established experimental designs, as well as ability to develop new protocols and methods with aptitude to troubleshoot problems in an independent manner.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree plus 4 years' laboratory experience in Cell Biology, Biochemistry or Pharmacology (or related field). Experience in pharmacology or drug discovery is highly desirable.
  • Experience with the following platforms: FLIPR, Agilent BRAVO, Sophion QUBE, PerkinElmer EnVision,  Microbeta radiometric plate reader, Nanion Cardioexcyte 96, PerkinElmer Signals.
  • Experience working with hIPSC Cardiomyocytes (extended culture and use in assays).
  

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to lift 20 lbs.

Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
