Job Description
Position Highlights:
The Patient Care Assistant represents and supports the mission, philosophy, and goals of the Moffitt Cancer Center through interaction with patients and/or their representative for registration, insurance, scheduling, order entry, screening, and medical necessity. Facilitates an efficient patient flow in a variety of specialty clinics by performing patient intake, preparing patients for clinical exams, and setting up for procedures. May assist in the maintenance of a safe and clean environment under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse, Attending Physician or Provider.
This role combines the duties generally assigned to Medical Assistants and the Patient Service Representative.
The Ideal Candidate
- The ideal candidate will have the following:
- High school diploma/GED
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program or Military Medical Technician Training
- Certification as a Medical Assistant or Nursing Assistant Certification
- Two years of customer service skills
- Two years in healthcare with managed care, insurance verification, collections, and authorizations
Responsibilities:
- Interact with patients to obtain information for accurate records.
- Schedule appointments and verifies orders.
- Facilitate patient flow, conducts initial patient screening, and communicates pertinent information.
- Prepare and maintain clinic exam room and equipment.
Credentials and Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Successful completion of a Medical Assistant training program or Military Medical Technician Training
- BLS Certification
