Position Description

The Research Assistant will support research on gene therapy to treat hereditary deafness and blindness. The job involves basic molecular biology, with genotyping, DNA and RNA extraction, preparing DNA for sequencing, cloning, and making mini-preps and maxi preps. The job also involves histology, including fixation, cryosectioning, staining for immunohistochemistry, and preparing samples for electron microscopy. Duties may also include working with mice and assessing auditory function in mice.

Basic Qualifications

2 years' related research experience. A Bachelor's degree may count towards experience.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, cell biology, biology, or closely related field.
• One to two years of previous laboratory experience working in a basic science research setting (relevant course work may count towards experience)
• Proficiency in a variety of molecular biology and data analysis software packages
• Proficiency with immunocytochemistry and confocal imaging
• Experience working with mice
• Demonstrated ability to tackle multiple projects while simultaneously performing benchwork as a member of an integrated team
• Analytical skills to resolve complex problems.
• Excellent record-keeping, organizational, and communication skills.

This is a 12-month term appointment with the possibility of renewal contingent on funding.

This is an in-person position based on our campus in Boston.
