Position Description
The Research Assistant will support research on gene therapy to treat hereditary deafness. Duties will include assessing auditory function in mice via auditory brainstem response and distortion-product otoacoustic emission recordings and may include histology, including fixation, cryosectioning, staining for immunohistochemistry, and preparing samples for electron microscopy. He or she will perform routine molecular biology including, but not limited to, PCR, cloning, sequencing, and DNA extraction. Duties also include working with mice; genotyping, breeding, and colony maintenance.

This individual will be responsible for collecting and recording experimental data and updating written protocols and methods based on findings. This individual will regularly update the research team with experimental results. This individual will be working within a culture inclusive of individuals with diverse backgrounds, styles, abilities, and motivations, and appreciate and leverage the capabilities, insights, and ideas of all individuals.
Basic Qualifications
College background or equivalent work experience, preferably in a related discipline. 1+ years of experience
Additional Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in genetics, molecular biology, cell biology, biology or closely related field.
  • One to two years of previous laboratory experience working in a basic science research setting, especially experience with auditory biology (relevant course work may count towards experience)
  • Proficiency in a variety of molecular biology and data analysis software packages
  • Experience working with mice
  • Demonstrated ability to tackle multiple projects while simultaneously performing bench work as a member of an integrated team
  • Analytical skills to resolve complex problems.
  • Excellent record-keeping, organizational, and communication skills.
  • A commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communications with others
Additional Information
This is a one-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position. 

This is an in-person position based on our campus in Boston.
