Job Description
The Quantum Technology Group at Syracuse University (SU), Syracuse, NY, is seeking research Postdoctoral to work on experimental, theoretical, and computational projects in quantum information science, including quantum sensing and metrology, quantum nano-photonics, meta-photonics, and interfacing machine learning with quantum optics and photonics. Successful candidates will join Prof. Pankaj Jha’s research group in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, as well as the Quantum Information Science Center of the Syracuse Center of Excellence. Postdoctoral positions are available as early as Summer 2023.
Research topics and projects include:
(1) Quantum light emission from atomic defects in wide bandgap materials.
(2) Superconducting 2D Materials for photodetection.
(3) Quantum metamaterials and meta-photonics.
(4) Intelligent quantum optics and photonics.
Qualifications
Ph.D. in Physics, Engineering, Materials Science, or other relevant fields.
Job Specific Qualifications
Research experience in one of the following areas: (i) 2D materials and heterostructures, (ii) quantum optics and nano-photonics, and (iii) metamaterial and metasurfaces.
Strong experimental skills including experience with low temperature and cryogenic systems (5K), single-photon sources and detectors, nanofabrication and materials characterization, time-resolved spectroscopy, confocal microscopy, and other experimental techniques.
Highly motivated to work with an interdisciplinary team of students (Graduate and Undergraduate) as well as internal (SU) and external (Berkeley, Boeing, Caltech, etc.) collaborators.
Responsibilities
The post-doctoral researcher will carry out basic and applied research to support sponsored projects and prepare research papers for publication. In addition to these primary research duties, the post-doc will also,
(1) mentor graduate and undergraduate students working on the low temperature and cryogenic systems (5K), single-photon sources and detectors, nanofabrication and materials characterization, time-resolved spectroscopy, confocal microscopy, and other experimental techniques;
(2) collaborate and participate in submitting research proposals to funding agencies; and
(3) work with researchers from multiple disciplines across campus as well as other domestic and international scholars.
