Position Summary

Under the Director, Marketing – Brand and Digital, manages the production and design processes to ensure creative deliverables meet strategic initiatives and satisfying quality standards. Serves as a support to design consultants to conceptualize, develop and implement new creative solutions for high profile projects and events such as operations, physician marketing, philanthropy, administrative, internal, external and events collateral. etc., which will enhance the company and brand image. The Senior Manager will manage and give direction to design, production and operations personnel within the Marketing and Communications Department, including, staff designers, as well as all on- and off-site design contractors, reviewing all output, making necessary edits and providing clear direction. Ensuring the Digital Asset Management system is routinely updated with new design templates and assets is also an integral part of the Sr. Manager’s role. This position requires a high level of autonomy, responsibility and accountability. This translates into producing quality designs as an individual with little or no supervision, and ensuring that the design, operations and print teams maintain the same high standards. The quality of design is paramount, as is the amount of work produced. Most importantly, all work produced by the Senior Manager, as well as team members must be delivered on time. Any deviation from agreed-to timeliness will be promptly communicated to the Director and/or project stakeholders. In an environment where deadlines and demands change daily, the Sr. Manager needs to be decisive, quickly pivot, adapt accordingly and accept responsibility for his or her actions. Managing sufficient staffing by use of contractors to meet the demands of the workload on an ongoing basis is also the Sr. Manager’s responsibility. Managing personnel issues is key, as is the ability to maintain a positive work environment for all team members. Introducing new ideas and processes that will enhance overall design and operations is regularly expected, as is the willingness to be open to the suggestions of others.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Serves as lead to the team in reaching design/art goals. Provide support in creating high profile materials and campaign development for print and all aspects of the digital space (including websites, static & animated banners, landing pages, etc.) Provide assistance with the development of concepts for ads and all collateral materials and digital deliverables
  • Oversee management of the production and publications design staff and functions.
  • Manage schedules and ensure deadlines are met; consult with Director to establish priorities.
  • Provide input towards the implementation and strategic plan for Creative Services efficiencies, financial stewardship and excellent product development and output, including capital expenses and developing delivery and quality standards.
  • Responsible for quality control for design, print production, operations, video and photography.
  • Manage staff on the current trends related to the field and on areas of needed improvement.
  • Hires, trains, develops and motivates contractors, direct reports and their staff. Sets standards for work against which performance is measured and evaluated.
  • As necessary and requested, schedules, assigns and prioritizes workload for Design staff.
  • Monitors staff working with external clients and vendors for graphics, print production and photography.
  • Performs other related duties and attends meetings as assigned or requested.

  • Budget/Financial Administration: Responsible for monitoring and managing dept budget. Works with Director, Marketing to plan budget for each upcoming fiscal year.
  • Ensure the digital photo library is well-maintained.
  • Follows established City of Hope and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines, including adherence to the workplace Code of Conduct and Compliance Plan. Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 4 additional years of experience plus the minimum experience requirement may substitute for minimum education.
  • 5 to 10 years in managing creative functions, including design, production, operations, photography and print.
  • 3 years of experience in a supervisory/managerial capacity required.

Preferred education experience and skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, Creative Services Management MFA
