About This Role:

The College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for an Applications Developer I. The purpose of this position is to assist with IT matters such as application development and maintenance, web/mobile design and development, developing software programs, as well as any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Duties/Responsibilities

Application development and maintenance. Support desktop, web and mobile applications.

Perform back-end web development of software applications. Perform design and development of applications needed for the College, the Veterinary Health Center and the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. Work with other IT team members to design and develop online applications needed for the CVM. Gather project requirements, translate to application features and develop technical documentation for the projects involved. Write API (application programming interfaces).

Perform web/mobile design and development. Use TOAD for Oracle, MySQL, Oracle SQL Developer to design database schemas and develop stored procedures and write SQL queries/view for efficient data retrieval and storage; use Java/JSP, C#/ASP.net MVC, Web API to design, develop, maintain, and enhance applications and use JavaScript, JQuery, AJAX, Java Spring, Angular, and CSS for data persistence and retrieval; use Oracle Java, Hibernate ORM, jQuery, JavaScript, HTML, PHP and other programming languages to develop and write extensible, scalable, and testable code keeping in mind performance requirements of a project; modify existing software to correct errors allow it to adapt to new hardware, and to improve performance.

Develop software programs to collect/share data with hospital and laboratory information systems and harvest data from diagnostic instrument; Collaborate on architect data and service layers for a project and confer with programmers to design systems and create project limitations and capabilities, and performance requirements and interfaces; determine system performance standards and choose appropriate technology/data structures and algorithms based on specific tasks and requirements; develop and direct software system testing and validation procedures, create project requirements documentation and test software programs to ensure that all modules and sites meet user needs and standards; analyze user needs and software requirements to determine feasibility of design; design, build, and develop application using Java, Android Studio, SDK, and debugging tools; troubleshoot and analyze existing applications to ensure they meet quality standards; troubleshoot and resolve production data and software problems; design mock-ups and wireframes by translating project requirements into use cases based on software engineering practices and provide technical analysis and project estimation factoring both in terms of cost as well as time; design rich user interfaces using bootstrap and following best practices for responsive design; design and develop services to be consumed by various sources such as Android/iOS devices; troubleshoot and resolve production data and software problems; develop and maintain applications as needed/requested; coordinate and implement changes to the applications with the IT team, faculty, staff, and administration; participate in Computing and Technical Support team assignments to provide application development and support; and prepare document project management workflows.
