Application Deadline: Open Until Filled

Job Description

Applicants will be housed in one of the following departments: Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering; Computer Science; or Industrial and Systems Engineering.

The University of Oklahoma (OU) Gallogly College of Engineering (GCoE) and the Oklahoma Aerospace and Defense Innovation Institute (OADII) are seeking candidates for three full-time faculty positions at the rank of research assistant professor (RAP) to support aerospace and defense research. These hires will fortify a strong interdisciplinary team in advanced manufacturing, centered around metal additive manufacturing processes. The team includes faculty from multiple schools, including Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE), Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering (AME), and Computer Science (CS). The new hires will integrate research in manufacturing processes, sensing and metrology, advanced computing, artificial intelligence, and information sciences, and focus on a range of topics from atomic to mesoscale microstructure evolutions of metals, process physics and diagnostics, real-time process monitoring, non-destructive evaluation and product verification, artificial intelligence and machine learning in process and product qualification, and large scale integration across manufacturing systems. This team is aimed at systemically advancing the state of the art in advanced manufacturing using modern methods such as digital twin technology, as well as improving the understanding of additive, subtractive, and hybrid manufacturing.

Successful candidates will be passionate about contributing to the growing research cluster in Additive Manufacturing (AM), specifically applied to the Aerospace, and Defense Sectors. They will be expected to conduct research within a strong, externally funded, collaborative research program and mentor graduate students in related areas. The new faculty members will also work with current OU faculty members to develop and offer courses and training in AM and relevant topics. Overall, the successful candidates are expected to make highly synergistic contributions to research, education, innovation, and entrepreneurship that augment the GCoE’s research program in advanced manufacturing and support the growing needs of the aerospace and defense industry across the nation.

Applicants must have earned a PhD in engineering, computer science, or a related discipline by the date the position starts. Applicants must be US Citizens or US Permanent Residents (Green Card Holders).

Faculty candidates must demonstrate specific research expertise in at least two of the following areas:

  • Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) for sustainment and reverse-engineering
  • Certification and qualification of components, along with processes, material, and equipment
  • AM Process Control and Optimization to Accelerate Design and Development
  • Digital twin models to employ Digital Engineering/Model-Based Systems Engineering (DE/MBSE) approaches and/or statistical models and simulations to assess current conditions, optimize operations, effect control, and predict future behavior

The application package should include: (i) single page cover letter that describes how your skills and experience make you a strong candidate for this position, (ii) curriculum vitae, (iii) three examples of your research publications, and (iv) list of at least three references. Application packages should be submitted using (http://apply.interfolio.com/124147). Inquiries about the position can be addressed to Professor Zahed Siddique, chair of the search committee at [email protected]. We encourage candidates to apply by May 1, 2023, though application packages will be accepted until the position is filled.
