Job Description

Database Administrator - MS SQL Server (City of Hope National Medical Center; Duarte, CA): Design and implement High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) architecture of large Microsoft SQL Server environments. Advance the design of Microsoft database installations, including servers, databases, storage, and disaster recovery. Lead successful implementations using all versions of SQL Servers, as well as data replication techniques for the enterprise. Lead installation and configuration of new standalone and clustered SQL Servers of all supported version of SQL Server. Lead 24/7 support of database monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting work, including process enhancement of database backup and recovery methodology, server patching, and security updates. Plan and implement database migration/upgrade between different Microsoft SQL Server versions and perform validations. Design and set up data syndication using Microsoft transaction, and snapshot and merge replication to bring disparate data sources into the data warehouse. Tune SQL queries, stored procedure, SQL Server engine, input/output (I/O), and network using SQL Server Profiler, SQL Server auditing, SQL Trace, and performance monitor (perfmon) for trace performance counter. Maintain Microsoft SQL Server database performance by calculating optimum value of database parameters, implementing new releases, completing maintenance requirements, and evaluating computer operating systems and hardware resource consumptions. Design and oversee enterprise level database security policy. Create SQL Server logins, users, and roles. Design and implement physical, logical, and conceptual database models. Create database, tables, constraints, procedures, triggers, and other database objects. Design and develop SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and Data Transformation Services (DTS) packages for data integration and migration. Lead management of SQL database environments related to Epic Cogito data warehouse, and participate in the management of the Cogito application with Cogito Administrators. Telecommuting permitted from anywhere in the U.S.

Minimum requirements: Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, plus six (6) years of experience as a Database Administrator or related occupation.

Must have experience with the following: designing and implementing High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) architecture using Always On availability groups, mirroring, Log Shipping Windows clustering, and SQL Server clustering; installing and configuring new SQL Server standalone instances of all supported versions of SQL Server; managing production support using SQL, T-SQL, stored procedure, functions, triggers, and PowerShell scripting; enterprise database migration and development using side-by-side and in-place methodologies; database replication (snapshot, transactional, and merge) and automated backup restorerefresh procedures; SQL Server Instance and database performance turning and optimization using: SQL server profiler, extended events, performance counter, SQL Audit, SQL Trace, and performance monitor for trace performance counters; database capacity planning and storage management; designing and implementing SQL Server and database security standards, policies, and database audits; and physical, logical, and conceptual database modeling.

Pay Rate: $48.30 - $77.28 / hour
