Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is seeking a strong, dynamic individual to manage the administrative needs for the vibrant and growing Computer Science and Engineering Department. This is a full-time NSHE Specialist 1 position reporting directly to the Department Chair and does provide layoff rights. Successful candidates will possess excellent organizational and communication skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to prioritize and manage tasks through completion.

This position provides administrative, fiscal, and human resources support for a department of 23 faculty. Duties include but are not limited to: managing departmental operating accounts, monitoring and revising budgets for faculty accounts, coordinating employment contracts for all personnel work types, supervising departmental Administrative Assistant 3 and student workers, scheduling courses, acting as search coordinator for personnel searches, and reviewing grant effort reports for certification.

Required Qualifications

This position requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and one year of relevant experience; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of program support experience equivalent to an Administrative Assistant III in Nevada state service which included applying complex laws and regulations, composing written materials and maintaining records; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with experience in Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Teams), Zoom, and Workday are encouraged to apply.

Schedule

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.

Compensation Grade

Grade 31 (Entry, Step 01 $20.97/hr. - Step 05 $24.81/hr.)

In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate’s qualifications, internal equity and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.
