Job Summary
The Division of Information Technology Services (ITS) is currently seeking a talented individual to fill the role of Wireless Network Engineer within the Communication Infrastructure team directly leading and supporting local and global campus wireless activities. This position will be responsible for all-things related to strengthening, augmenting, and evolving wireless connectivity throughout our extensive local and global campus networks. This includes service architecture and design, service optimization and refactoring as well as serving as a technical escalation point for other engineers. In addition, this role will contribute to training, documentation, creation of knowledgebase articles, and collaborating with the Customer Experience team to ensure proper support is maintained. Customer Experience is the first line of IT support for the university, and they will escalate to this role/team.

We are looking for a collaborative individual to work closely with both within ITS and Communication Infrastructure as well as with members of the University community to help provide the best experience for our students, faculty, and staff. The ideal candidate should possess skills in problem solving, architecture/design, training/documentation, delegation, and innovative thinking.

As a member of the larger Communication Infrastructure team, a successful candidate will provide domain expertise in wireless networking technologies supporting a diverse and increasingly digital environment.

To ensure that essential services are provided to the university community, the employee may be required to work outside his/her regular working hours and university holidays.

8am to 5pm Monday to Friday

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Technology related field.
Working knowledge of best practice architecture and administration of Wireless technologies.
Demonstrated experience implementing/supporting campus wireless, specifically controller-based architectures
Experience working in a higher education environment supporting faculty and students.
Working knowledge of fundamental LAN/WAN technologies and IP protocols such as TCP/IP networking (IPv4/IPv6), BGP, OSPF, DNS, and DHCP.
Ability to lead as a technical escalation point in support complex wireless issues in a large campus/enterprise environment.
Proficiency in Radius management and operations in support wireless client authentication.
Technical writing skills for documenting environments and procedures.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Desire and ability to work in a highly collaborative work environment with faculty, staff, scientists, and students to achieve a common goal.
Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience leading and developing multi-site campus Wireless network related architectures.
Experience with deploying hybrid Wireless systems with on-premises and/or public/private/SAS cloud components.
Functional experience with Wireless network performance monitoring and benchmarking.
Advanced degree in science or technology or 5 years equivalent work experience in a related field
Past experience in authentication protocols and other methods of providing security for passwords and network communication, including Multi-Factor Authentication in a Higher Education environment.
Experience in cybersecurity best practices related to wireless systems
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Build and Design new wireless networks supporting the Boston campus and Global campuses. Write standard wireless specifications for new and existing deployments. Work with and support the network architect through future architectural changes.(20%)
Tier 3, expert level, wireless network support for the NU community as required in a timely and efficient manner. Exercises thorough communication during the time of network troubleshooting. Leads and mentors’ individuals in the wireless function area. Supports the community with new wireless networks for research areas, student wireless networks and standard Faculty and staff environments.(20%)
Deliver Consistent, Reliable and Scalable Wireless Network Services. Build SOP’s to for repetitive functions such as new wireless deployments, software code upgrades, Radius authentication standards. Build and maintain a Cloud based wireless authentication through SecureW2. Support and enhance eduroam service at all campus locations. Build and develop an IOT environment and deploy for an array of devices.(20%)
Work with the Customer Experience team to work through customer support tickets. Support IOT device registration for the student body.(10%)
Troubleshoot layer 3 issues which could affect the wireless environment. should generate, maintain, and develop Best Practice documentation concerning network mapping, network configuration and processes. monitor new, as well as existing equipment, hardware, and upgrades of software. The wireless Engineer should keep up on latest products, services, standards and protocols, developments in the wireless industry. Be able to use troubleshooting tools such as network monitoring, log files, customer input and network packet captures.(10%)
