What You Will Achieve

The Pfizer Intelligent Assistance Solutions Team is responsible for the strategy and execution of Machine Learning (ML), Natural Language Process (NLP) and Applied Artificial Intelligence (Applied AI) related programs across the enterprise.  It’s mission is to innovate, build, deliver and maintain Applied AI and Generative AI base solutions, products and  platforms that enable Pfizer to connect digitally with all our customers. 

The Intelligent Assistance Solutions Team seeks a Machine Learning (ML) Lead Data who will be dedicated to leveraging data, advanced analytics, machine/deep learning, and recent advances in NLP and Generative AI to create breakthrough solutions that change patients lives. 

Day-to-day, the ML Lead will actively support a high performing team of ML/NLP engineers to evaluate innovative open-source and commercial ML/NLP based models, methods and pipelines that are critical to developing breakthroughs AI solutions.  The team will evaluate and execute on high priority use cases to exhibit proof of value and work in collaboration with AI engineering and platform function, to industrialize solutions into products.  

How You Will Achieve It

  • Work closely with teams across Pfizer to maximize the use of NLP and Generative AI capabilities to support efforts focused on digitizing the enterprise by redefining existing internal business processes and how Pfizer engages with patients and healthcare providers
  • Develop efficient analytic pipelines that include components related to data acquisition, exploratory analysis, feature engineering, modeling, and interactive storytelling.

  • Management, mentorship and development of 2-46-8 Data Science/data science and/or AI ML engineering colleagues
  • Lead and execute on high value Proof of Concepts  related to NLP and Generative AI
  • Serve as key point-of-contact for AI/ML-based opportunity assessment activities
  • Co-develop ML-based analytic AI re-usable microservices such as Entity Extractors, Sentiment Analyzers, Document Summarizers that will serve as the foundation for a scalable Applied AI solutions and products across Pfizer
  • Co-develop common patterns and approaches for building end to end NLP pipelines
  • Establish the right balance between POC delivery and maintenance, managing technical debt, and ML-focused exploratory investigations for new product ideas
  • Manage delivery goals through a combination of good planning, removing obstacles, technical mentoring, reviewing work, and fostering positive collaboration with product, design and other engineering teams
  • Partner with other Data Science & Advanced Analytics oriented groups within Pfizer to develop common tools & approaches through participation in formal/informal community of practice activities.
  • Directly engage and clearly communicate vision and business value of ML-based initiatives to key business stake-holders (Director/Sr. Director/VP level)
  • Informal leaders Shared-ownership of advancing team's capabilities in innovative areas
  • Contribute to critical talent acquisition and development activities through external partnerships and co-sponsored hackathons

Qualifications

Must-Have

  • 10+ years prior work experience in Life Science, Healthcare or associated consulting practice
  • 10+ years of work experience as a software engineer in machine learning, knowledge graphs, and data science
  • 6+ years of experience directly managing a team of software engineers or data scientists
  • 6+ years of hands-on programming experience in at least one of the following: SQL, Python, JAVA, C/C++
  • 5+ years ML coding experience (statistical learning, deep learning, Tensorflow/Keras, GCP/AWS)
  • 3+ years experience working within AWS Ecosystem
  • Demonstrated track record of recruiting excellent engineers and data scientists and building a strong technical benchmark
  • Strong knowledge of agile scrum practices and experience in using those methods to deliver complex solutions
  • Ability to create technical examples, prototypes, and demonstrations based on rapidly changing data & tool sets
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary environment; with the ability to effectively communicate with a diverse audience
  • Experience Demonstrated experience with mature and emerging machine learning models, statistical modeling; supervised and unsupervised Machine Learning techniques critical for advancing Pfizer’s AI intelligent services objectives
  • Demonstrated success embedding ML algorithms in production applications and applying MLOps in practice
  • Ability to educate business users on AI and ML concepts in laymen terms
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills

  • Advisor/Consultancy: Provides well-informed advice, typically within a specific technical specialization, ensuring that it is properly understood and appropriately exploited, to enhance the effectiveness of significant activities.  Provides advice on technical aspects of Conversational UI and ensures that relevant technical strategies, policies, standards and practices are applied correctly.
  • Technical Acumen: Maintains knowledge of specific technologies provides detailed advice regarding their application, executes specialized tasks. 
  • Thought Leadership & Advocacy: Develop awareness of industry developments and best practices Provide thought leadership in emerging technologies as they relate to AI and Conversational UI
  • Presentation Skills: Ability to develop visually simple and appealing PowerPoint presentations and be comfortable with articulating and communicating with the right authority and messaging to a broad range of stakeholders

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

3-4 Days in the office.  10% local travel and flexibility to work across global time zones

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $127,400.00 to $212,200.00. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus with a target of 17.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan, paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Salary range does not apply to the Tampa, FL location.

Relocation assistance may be available based on business needs and/or eligibility.
