Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Regional Mathematics Center at Boise State University is committed to improving K-12 student mathematics achievement in Idaho public schools. We work in collaboration with classroom teachers and district personnel to provide professional development opportunities grounded in mathematics education research, focused on improving K-12 student mathematics achievement, and meaningfully connected to the Idaho Mathematics Content and Practice Standards.

This position will be an 11-month appointment.

Department Overview:
The Math Education Collective (MEC) group offers high-quality school-based mathematics support for educators through Boise State University. Collaboration through the MEC provides capacity to meet stakeholder’s goals for improving math education.

Level Scope:
Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of areas typically obtained through higher education combined with experience. Manages large projects or processes; navigates problems faced that are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures.

Essential Functions:
Facilitate professional development activities for K-12 Idaho educators focused on research-based instructional practices to improve Idaho students’ mathematics achievement, including:

Collaborative preparation and planning meetings with teachers, administrators, and other professional development providers.
Serving as an instructor for professional development courses and workshops in face-to-face and online formats.
Frequent travel to schools for embedded classroom teaching activities.
Use and facilitation of online collaborative technologies.
Contribute to applied mathematics education research and professional development projects through:

Collaborative creation and revision of professional development materials.
Facilitation of professional development opportunities with classroom teachers and district leaders.
Collection and analysis of research data in addressing mathematics teaching and learning.
Engage in personal and collective professional learning and development through:

Collaboration with colleagues at Boise State University and the Idaho Regional Math Centers.
Review of scholarly literature and participation in mathematics education conferences.
Independent learning activities as approved by supervisor(s).
May perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
● Experience facilitating mathematics professional development.
● K-12 teaching and/or coaching experience.
● The ability to work with colleagues at Boise State University in a professional collaborative to design and deliver high-quality mathematics teacher professional development programs.
● Possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years experience or equivalent relevant experience.
