Job Description

Position Summary
The successful candidates in these positions are expected to teach a combination of entry level biology courses and upper division courses within the candidate’s specialty (18 hrs/academic year); participate in limited service to the department and university, mentor students, maintain regular attendance, holding office hours as required, and serve as lab manager for research and teaching labs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teach the assigned teaching load including lectures and labs with all the duties that it implies in terms of preparation of classes, timely grading exams and papers, holding limited office hours for students consultation. Candidate must also prepare the labs, and make sure they are clean and ready for the next professor before the lab time expires.
The successful candidates in these positions are expected to teach a combination of entry level biology courses and upper division courses within the candidate’s specialty (18 hrs/academic year); participate in limited service to the department and university, mentor students, maintain regular attendance, and holding office hours as required. IN addition to the teaching responsibilities the successful applicant will serve as lab manager for the department. The duties of lab manager will be to
1. Oversee biology research lab spaces ensuring student access to safe and professional spaces.
2. Train students in the use of research equipment and supervise the working of the students in the research labs
3. Maintain common instrumentation, equipment, and lab supplies (organization, access, and ordering).
4. Assist biology research faculty in projects with undergraduate and master students and providing direct student support in lab bench work.
5. Provide logistical support, curriculum development support, and coordinate research lab space access for Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs) that integrate faculty research projects into courses, particularly freshman/sophomore biology courses.
6. Coordinate lab safety standards and student training.
7. Other activities such as public outreach as needed by the department

Minimum Qualifications
Masters in a biological science or related fields with demonstrated experience in teaching college level classes.
Preferred Qualifications
Background in Botanical research and teaching .
Experience in teaching in Hispanic Serving Institutions
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Successful candidate must be able to deliver lectures and engage students in the course content. They also need have knowledge or be prepare to learn current pedagogical approaches, and high Impact practices in the development of their classes.
Successful candidate will have knowledge of various laboratory equipment commonly used in a biological research lab
