ROLE SUMMARY

In the face of COVID-19, this call is more urgent than ever. Our protease inhibitor, oral PAXLOVID, has been developed at “light-speed” and is currently available under Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for the treatment of mild-to-moderate coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in adults and, in some markets, pediatric patients (12 years of age and older weighing at least 40 kg) with positive results of direct severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) viral testing, and who are at high risk for progression to severe COVID-19, including hospitalization or death. Ensuring PAXLOVID is available to as many patients that need it will require us to work with agility with governments, society, and stakeholders as they combat current and future COVID surges.

The PAXLOVID National Account Director (NAD) will function as the headquarter point of contact for the Paxlovid team’s interaction with the target entities to secure Pfizer’s brand contracts, patient compliance and identification initiatives, and innovative solutions that address current market dynamics and needs. In addition, they will coordinate HQ driven field-based education of local level pharmacy/identified target providers both at a customer level but also within the aligned Integrated Account Team (IAT). The NAD will support and help grow appropriate dispensing and use of Paxlovid while improving dispensing rates, time to treat of strategic customers by identifying shared objectives, aligning resources and deploying innovative solutions to achieve targeted clinical and business results. The National Account Director will need to cultivate strong C-suite and executive relationships across their customers and possess in depth knowledge of their business as well as a strong knowledge of the overall healthcare market.

The National Pharmacy Director will work collaboratively with brand marketing, access, PCA, field teams, legal, and trade to enable commercial efforts. The colleague will work in collaboration with the integrated Area Business Manager and Retail Account Specialist team specific to their assigned community pharmacy chain to develop field-based implementation plans for specific headquarter driven initiatives, contracts and communicate learnings across the team to increase effectiveness. This includes responsibility for coordinating with the Retail Account Specialist through the development of business collaborations focused on current and future problem resolution, market dynamics and strategic business objectives. The role requires strong business acumen, buy and bill product experience, well developed negotiation skills, and an understanding of contracting in the context of complex organizations. The role will report to the Team Lead – Senior Director, National Pharmacy Accounts

  • Develop business plans that position the Pfizer Paxlovid portfolio to achieve revenue and business objectives by leading the development and growth of large contracting entity assigned business partnerships
  • Responsible for optimizing the patient experience through mutually beneficial B2B interactions, minimizing gaps in care specific to antivirals, DDI coordinating, collaboration with assigned community pharmacy chains and various other prescribers, and proactively strategizing with internal stakeholders as it relates to market trends and opportunities.
  • Form collaborative relationships with decision-makers to conduct needs assessments and deliver compliant solutions that will increase access and the appropriate use of Paxlovid.
  • Execute the Pfizer U.S. Paxlovid contracting strategy by developing and maintaining relationships as well as negotiating and monitoring the performance of contracts with national and regional pharmacy chains as required.
  • Work with the Trade team to deliver Paxlovid specific product contracts to customers who have alternate choices in the marketplace. Provide customer perspective and input regarding contracting strategy
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to achieve targeted business and contracting objectives for targeted customers with Pfizer Customer Service, PCA, Field Teams, Trade, and Marketing
  • Implement programs across customer segments and present approved materials to deliver value added messaging in a compelling manner; developing and executing programs that are strategic in nature and may have near, mid, and long-term market and financial impact
  • Stay current and strategically align with the changing healthcare environment specifically impacting the community pharmacy channel
  • Collect and share learnings and leading practices customer interactions across the US Paxlovid team and other Pfizer internal stakeholders to increase the educationand effectiveness of working with this customer segment
  • Generate compliant and innovative approaches to contracting pull through in partnership with Marketing, Sales, and the Integrated Account Team.
  • Meet or exceed product performance objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS/BA degree required / Advanced degree preferred
  • 8-10 years of successful experience in the pharmaceutical industry and/or with a national community pharmacy chain
  • Experience with large customers with demonstrated track record of assessing account needs and bringing relevant cross-functional appropriate resources to drive performance.
  • Adept at creating a vision for the future and working to create pathways to achieve that vision
  • Advanced negotiation experience and contracting experience required
  • Ability and proven success working in ambiguous environments to drive results
  • National account management experience preferred
  • Community/retail/specialty pharmacy experience preferred
  • Launch experience preferred
  • Experience in developing mutually beneficial customer relationships with C-Suite and VP level customers
  • Demonstrated track record of strong business acumen, problem solving, strategic thinking, and project management skills, as well as excellent planning and prioritization skills
  • Demonstrated track record of change agility, leading without authority and cross functional collaboration
  • Functional/Technical Skills and proficiency in Excel for analyzing and interpreting sales data
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time based on business requirements, to include customer meetings and internal Pfizer meetings
